DUBFUNK v2
What Is Dubfunk?
Dubfunk is an all Dubstep/Grime catered monthly event, calling Milwaukee it's home.
Dubfunk was incepted by Kruser in March 2010, and put into play April 16th 2010. He watched the other major markets around him growing rapidly in the Dubstep genre, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Columbia, and Kansas City and realized that something needed to happen immediately in his home city.
"If something that was so big on the East and West Coast could flourish in smaller "Midwest" markets, then it should have a home, and be well represented here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin."
With that goal set in his mind, Kruser went on to start a weekly radio internet dubstep show every Thursday 7-9pm central on http://www.merkum.fm to further spread the Dubstep sound to people in the area that may not be to familiar with it, or that have been looking for an alternate source to get their "dub-fix". This radio show was also a catalyst to promote the upcoming Dubfunk events, and artists.
The very first Dubfunk event was held at Hot Water, and was joined up with the very popular Miltown Beatdown, hosted by Jordan Lee (Madhatter) next door at Wherehouse. It was a hope to bring the two worlds of Hip Hop, and Dubstep together, and have different tastes of music branched out to another group very similar in sound.
"It was great to see so many of the Hip Hop community getting down to some nasty Dubstep, and the EDM heads next door cheering on the Hip Hop producer battle!" Kruser states.
After the first event, he was contacted by the staff of a downtown Milwaukee bar, Bad Genie in June 2010. They had noticed Kruser pushing the Dubstep scene in the city and wanted him to bring his night to their venue. Dubfunk was held there until October 2010. Summer of 2011 looks to be the best Dubfunk series to date with the last Friday of every month at Crisp, kicking off April 29th 2011.
